Active Concepts began in 1987 while principal owner Debbie Honig was on leave from her position as Creative Director of Book Clubs at Scholastic, Inc. The company began as a creator/producer of non-traditional educational and training (printed) materials (for example, board games) and edgy premiums for ad agencies to motivate sales reps and target consumers to buy more ("Send in X box tops for free stuff").
Active Concepts was incorporated in 1988 as a woman-owned brand marketing business. Several entrepreneurial magazines featured Active Concepts as an up-and-coming sales promotion company to watch in the 90's.
Ms. Honig's reputation as a production pro (she holds a Masters in Materials Management, Marketing Communications and Graphic Arts), together with her strategic relationships, garnered her invitations to teach Book Production Techniques in Publishing at the NYU School of Continuing Education, and she continues to teach a course at The Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT), New York City, on How to Promote and Market Your Company's Products and Services.
